These beautiful and original handmade ceramics are from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. They are the product of an artistic movement that is recreating and enlarging upon the earthenware art of a long vanished local native culture. They are shaped without potters wheels, using molds and the artists' hands. They are decorated with paints made of ground up local minerals and then fired in small backyard ovens.
